Your child’s Baptism is a very important time in his/her life. At Baptism, the first Sacrament of Initiation, your child will be officially welcomed into the Catholic faith and our Church community.
The Sacrament of Baptism at our Parish has two core components:
- The Baptism Preparation Session,
- The Baptism Ceremony.
The Baptism Preparation Session
This is the initial component and takes place on the last Saturday of each month. The session runs for approximately 40-60 mins. During this session, you will meet up with the other families who will be celebrating their child’s Baptism in the same month as your child. You will also have an opportunity to explore the beautiful rituals and rich symbolism that make up the Sacrament of Baptism. Father Sam will walk you through the actual Baptism ceremony. You will also be given the chance to ask any questions that you may have, during this session.
The Baptism Ceremony
The ceremony takes place at 9am at Summer Hill and 11.30am at Lewisham each weekend throughout the year (excluding Days of Solemnity). Your family and friends will gather around your child and the godparents and be invited to participate in the ceremony by joining in with the responses in the Baptism booklet. The ceremony itself is about a half hour’s duration, depending on the number of children being Baptised at the time.
How to register your child to be Baptised:
You live within our parishes: If you would like to have your child or children Baptised at St Thomas’ or St Patrick’s, and you live within our parish boundaries please complete the Request for Baptism Form and return to the parish office at email@example.com
You don’t live within our parishes: If you would like to have your child or children Baptised at St Thomas’ or St Patrick’s, and you don’t live within our parish boundaries, you are required to obtain permission from your local Parish Priest to baptise your child outside your parish. Please complete the Request for Baptism Form and ask your Priest to complete the Permission Form (choose one for the church you prefer) and return both forms to the parish office at firstname.lastname@example.org
All families baptising their children at either of our Parishes are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Course. This will confirmed with you when we confirm the date of the Baptism.
Please feel free to contact our Parish Secretary if you have any questions or require any further information. Please note we are not able to hold dates or confirm any arrangements until a Request for Baptism form has been completed and returned. Thank you for your understanding.
