Thank you for your interest in celebrating the Sacraments at one of our Parishes.

For Parents with children at St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School: please note that First Holy Communion has already occurred for 2021 and registrations for 2022 are not yet open.

For Parents with children at all other schools: The Sacraments are a wonderful gift to us from God inviting us into deeper intimacy with Him. So that children can gain the full benefit of the experience, the preparation is vitally important. Unlike Baptism and Confirmation, Eucharist is a sacrament that can be received as often as one wants, and strengthens us with grace each time it is received. Candidates need to be Catholic, and have made their First Reconciliation prior to receiving their First Holy Communion.

In our Parishes, we have the Sacraments of both Reconciliation and Holy Communion when the child is in year three. They are still held as two separate sacraments, and are arranged approximately three months apart. When you register your child for Reconciliation we will assume you are also participating in Holy Communion unless you advise otherwise.

First Holy Communion Preparation
Preparation is typically held on a Sunday afternoon from 3pm to 4pm. Given the current lockdown restrictions, we will be commencing our preparation via Zoom. The child and a parent or carer is expected to attend both the preparation, and participate in an online Mass in order to properly prepare to receive the Sacrament. Our Preparation dates for 2021 are as follows:

Sunday 17th October 3pm – 4pm
Sunday 24th October 3pm – 4pm
Sunday 31st October 3pm – 4pm
Sunday 7th November 3pm – 4pm

Links to the Zoom sessions will be sent to all parents and carers who have registered their children via the link below. Please note that if you have already registered your child for First Reconciliation earlier this year, you do not need to register again.

First Holy Communion Ceremony – to be held at St Thomas, Lewisham
The date for the ceremony is to be confirmed and will depend on the date the current COVID lockdown in greater Sydney comes to an end, and the relevant restrictions placed on Places of Worship at that time.

The First Holy Communion Mass is typically held on a Saturday morning. This Mass is a special celebration for the students and their families to share in. All are welcome. We have chosen this time to allow an opportunity to pause and make a true family celebration of the Sacrament if you wish to.

Cost
The cost per child is $50 which covers both First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We will contact you to arrange payment over the phone where possible, or alternatively you can place cash in an envelope and hand to Father at Mass. Please note that no child will ever be denied the opportunity to receive the Sacraments due to financial limitations. Families in difficult financial circumstances should contact the parish office to discuss their situation confidentially.

Dress/Attire
Children are not required to buy special outfits for the Sacrament, however most girls will wear a white dress and most boys will wear dress pants and a long sleeve shirt. A general guide is how they would dress to attend a special occasion. Boys should wear long pants and a shirt with a collar, no jeans, cargo pants or joggers. Girls should wear a dress, knee length or longer, and no midriffs or bare shoulders. More information will be available during preparation.

Photography
Professional photography will be available on the day of First Holy Communion. Orders and payments are handled directly with the Photography company.

How to register your child
A copy of the child’s Baptism certificate is required as well as the permission of both parents. Please complete the attached registration form, to enrol your child.
