Thank you for your interest in celebrating the Sacraments at one of our Parishes.
We are taking registrations for 2021.

For Parents with children at St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School: please note that the dates for your Sacraments and details regarding preparation will differ from the dates outlined below and will be communicated to you through the school. Please continue directly to the registration link at the bottom of this page.

The Sacraments are a wonderful gift to us from God inviting us into deeper intimacy with Him. So that children can gain the full benefit of the experience, the preparation is vitally important. Unlike Baptism and Confirmation, Eucharist is a sacrament that can be received as often as one wants, and strengthens us with grace each time it is received. Candidates need to be Catholic, and have made their First Reconciliation prior to receiving their First Eucharist, and must be in year three or above.

In our Parishes, we have the Sacraments of both Reconciliation and Holy Communion when the child is in year three. They are still held as two separate sacraments, and are arranged approximately three months apart. When you register your child for Reconciliation we will assume you are also participating in Holy Communion unless you advise otherwise.

First Holy Communion Preparation
We have recently piloted our Sacramental preparation via Zoom to help us remain ‘COVID-proof’ in 2021. Once we have feedback on the pilot, we will be able to schedule our 2021 preparation dates. Preparation is typically held on a Sunday afternoon from 3pm to 4pm, followed by Mass at 5pm at St Thomas. The child and a parent or carer is expected to attend both the preparation, and the accompanying Mass in order to properly prepare to receive the Sacrament

First Holy Communion Ceremony (for students outside St Patricks Primary School) – to be held at St Thomas, Lewisham
9am Saturday 14th August 2021

The First Holy Communion Mass is held on a Saturday morning. This Mass is a special celebration for the students and their families to share in. All are welcome. We have chosen this time to allow an opportunity to pause and make a true family celebration of the Sacrament if you wish to. Many families attend the Mass, join the Parish for a short morning tea and then celebrate a family lunch.

The cost per child is $50 which covers both First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We will contact you to arrange payment over the phone where possible, or alternatively you can place cash in an envelope and hand to Father at Mass. Please note that no child will ever be denied the opportunity to receive the Sacraments due to financial limitations. Families in difficult financial circumstances should contact the parish office to discuss their situation confidentially.

Children are not required to buy special outfits for the Sacrament, however most girls will wear a white dress and most boys will wear dress pants and a long sleeve shirt. A general guide is how they would dress to attend a special occasion. Boys should wear long pants and a shirt with a collar, no jeans, cargo pants or joggers. Girls should wear a dress, knee length or longer, and no midriffs or bare shoulders. More information will be available during preparation.

Professional photography will be available on the day of First Holy Communion. Order forms will be given prior to the Ceremony. Orders and payments are handled directly with the Photography company.

How to register your child
